{"id":12270,"date":"2021-07-28T07:32:21","date_gmt":"2021-07-28T07:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pacific-center.com.au\/blog\/?p=12270"},"modified":"2021-10-20T00:42:32","modified_gmt":"2021-10-20T00:42:32","slug":"up-to-600-covid-payment-for-eligible-international-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pacific-center.com.au\/blog\/2021\/07\/28\/up-to-600-covid-payment-for-eligible-international-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Up to $600 COVID Payment for Eligible International Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p><em>28 July update:<\/em><strong>\u00a0COVID disaster payments to increase by $150 a week for locked-down Sydneysiders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-07-28\/covid19-disaster-payment-increased-700-week\/100326848\">reported by the ABC<\/a>, locked-down Sydneysiders will receive an additional $150 a week if they have lost more than 20 hours of work, or an extra $75 if they have lost fewer than 20 hours, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says.<\/p>\n<p>It brings the COVID-19 disaster payments to $750 a week for people who have lost most of their work, and $450 for those who have lost some of it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_separator wpb_content_element vc_separator_align_center vc_sep_width_100 vc_sep_pos_align_center vc_separator_no_text vc_sep_color_grey\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\"><strong>As a result of the\u00a0<a class=\"_2msBb vOtE5 _1wNLk _3i4V4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-06-03\/new-covid-cases-detected-in-victoria-as-lockdown-continues\/100186750\" data-component=\"ContentLink\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/100186750\">extension of the lockdown in Victoria<\/a>\u00a0announced on Thursday 3 June,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-06-03\/new-temporary-covid-payment-lockdown-explained\/100188242\">the Australian federal government announced a new payment<\/a>\u00a0to those that have lost work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">From now on, anybody who loses work in any state or territory that goes into a lockdown of longer than seven days will be able to access the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/individuals\/services\/centrelink\/covid-19-disaster-payment\">\u201ctemporary COVID disaster payment\u201d<\/a>, but only from week two onwards.<\/p>\n<p>This is a lump sum payment to help workers unable to earn income due to a COVID-19 state public health order. This may involve a lockdown, hotspot or movement restrictions.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Are international students eligible for this payment?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Yes! You are eligible for the payment as long as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You\u2019re an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/individuals\/topics\/residence-descriptions\/30391\">Australian resident<\/a>, permanent resident or eligible working visa holder<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re aged 17+ and living in a Commonwealth-defined COVID hotspot area<\/li>\n<li>You would have worked if the lockdown had not happened (and have lost income)<\/li>\n<li>You don\u2019t have access to special pandemic\/sick leave (or you have none remaining)<\/li>\n<li>You have less than $10,000 in \u201cliquid assets\u201d (i.e. savings, shares, or loans)<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re not on income support payments from the Commonwealth (i.e. JobSeeker)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019re a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/individuals\/services\/centrelink\/covid-19-disaster-payment\/how-much-you-can-get\/your-relationship-status#ifyouhaveapartner\">member of a couple<\/a>, you can both claim this payment. You and your partner will need to make separate claims.<\/p>\n<p>You can get this payment even if you\u2019re eligible on only one day of a recognised COVID-19 period of restricted movement, lockdown or hotspot.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><strong>How much money will I get?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The amount of money you will receive depends on your situation. For detailed information, click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/individuals\/services\/centrelink\/covid-19-disaster-payment\/how-much-you-can-get\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>When does payment start and how do I apply?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As an eligible visa holder, you will need to call\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/individuals\/services\/centrelink\/covid-19-disaster-payment\/how-claim\">Services Australia<\/a>\u00a0on 180 22 66 to apply. For more information, click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/individuals\/services\/centrelink\/covid-19-disaster-payment\/how-claim\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Phone lines are open Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm (AEST).<\/p>\n<p>You can call Services Australia\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/individuals\/contact-us\/phone-us#languages\">Multilingual Phone Service<\/a>\u00a0on 131 202 to speak to someone in a language other than English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You do not need to have a myGov account or contact Centrelink as an international student when applying for this payment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"_2O2Ne _2El7j _3XvRm _3qPMD _2rdcP _2Od9e _582YK _2eB4R\" data-component=\"Heading\"><strong>When does the payment end?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">The Prime Minister has said the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-06-03\/new-temporary-covid-payment-lockdown-explained\/100188242\">payment would be done on a \u201cweek-by-week basis\u201d<\/a>. This means that if a lockdown goes beyond two weeks, people will have to reapply to have another weekly payment for as long as the lockdown lasts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">The payment will end when the Commonwealth no longer defines an area as a hotspot, which is declared by Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve already submitted a claim, you may not need to claim again.
